Evaluation of the ambient environment of mineral (gypsum(CaSO42H2O)) growth by ESR microscope
1995
Geochemical Journal
The distribution of two radicals (C03 and S02) in natural crystalline gypsum in a bore-hole core from the Konya basin in Turkey was imaged using a home-made electron spin resonance (ESR) microscope. The high concentration of S02 at the center of the crystal indicates that the gypsum has grown from the center to the surface. The high concentration of C03 at the surface would be caused by the external /3-rays from sediments. The distribution of impurities was also checked by electron probe X-ray microanalysis (EPMA).
