The objective of this work was evaluate MDF sawdust as an alternative adsorbent for textile dyes red Quimacryl GRL and Nylosan blue N-BLN. Adsorption studies were performed in a fixed bed column using MDF sawdust in natura and treated with 0.10 mol L -1 NaOH and HCl. Saturation curves were obtained percolating 100 mg L -1 solutions of dyes in the sawdust filled column, 25 mL aliquots were collected and the remaining dye concentration determined by spectrophotometry. more » ... f red dye (cationic) was quite efficient, and improved significantly with alkali sawdust treatment. Removal of blue dye (anionic) was not as effective even with acid treatment. The effect of the ionic strength was evaluated, showing that removal of blue dye is impaired by the presence of dissolved ions. The best pH values for the adsorption were 1 for blue dye and 12 for red dye. Desorption of dyes was possible using 0.10 mol L -1 HCl or NaOH.
