The practical economic load dispatch (ELD) problem with heavy constraints is a complex, higher order nonlinearity and non-smooth optimization problem. Traditional BFO is easy to fall into local optimum when it is applied to solve the ELD problem. Then a closed-loop control system based on feedback mechanism is constructed in chemotactic operation, which can dynamically adjust the chemotactic step length to improve balancing the global and local search and obtain global minima. The CL-ARBFO is applied to solve the ELD problem with valve point-effects and power losses.Three cases of test systems are used to validate the performance of the proposed algorithm and to compare it with the BFO and ARBFO optimization techniques. The results show that the proposed method outperforms other methods in terms of convergence rate and solution quality in solving the ELDproblem with valve-point effects.
