Niching GAs have been widely investigated to apply genetic algorithms (GAs) to multimodal function optimization problems. In this paper, we suggest a new niching GA that attempts to form niches, each consisting of an equal number of individuals. The proposed GA can be applied also to combinatorial optimization problems by defining a distance metric in the search space.
