The μ-amido-μ-peroxo-bis[bis(ethylenediamine)cobalt(III)] cation, [(en)2Co·μ(NΗ2,O2) · Co(en)2]3⊕ (C) is an intermediate species in Werner's preparation of the corresponding μ-amido-μ-superoxo and the μ-amido-μ-hydroperoxo complexes. Preparations of racemic salts of (C) containing the anions I⊖, SCN⊖, and S2O62⊖ respectively are described. By means of an X-ray structure analysis of the thiocyanate of (C) the O2 bridge was proved to be a true peroxo group.
