Evaluation of a mastitis control programme adopted in small dairies in the district of Colombo

In this programme on the control of mastitis, dairy farmers were advised on correct milking procedure and good hygiene a t milking time. All milking cows were individually tested by means of the California Mastitis Test (CMT) and the animals were arranged in the correct milking order. All the sub-clinical and clinical cases of mastitis were treated during the first two rounds of testing. All clinical cases were treated throughout the programme. A teat dip was used.
