The paper includes a review of dance-flies (Empididae) of the Empis (s. str.) pennipes group from the territory of the Caucasus that is based on materials housed in the Zoological Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg, and in Kuban State University, Krasnodar (Russia). Currently, 17 species of the E. pennipes group are recorded from the Caucasus including 5 new species described in this paper. Empis (s. str.) batumiensis sp. n. (Georgia) is the only species of Empis (s. str.) that has entirely yellow thorax and abdomen. Empis (s. str.) caucasimontanus sp. n. (Russia: Adygea, Krasnodar Province) is similar to E. pennipes (s. str.) Linnaeus, 1758 differing from the latter by shorter labrum (nearly 1.5 times as long as head is high), hyaline wings, smaller body size (about 3.5 mm) and by the structure of the male terminalia. Empis (s. str.) caucasipennipes sp. n. (Russia: Krasnodar Province) is similar to E. pennipes differing from the latter by shorter labrum (nearly 1.5 times as long as head is high), and by the structure of the male terminalia. Empis (s. str.) ladae sp. n. (Russia: Krasnodar Province) is closely related to E. decora Meigen, 1822, however, the new species is larger (body 6-7 mm), has longer labrum (about 3.5 times longer than head is high), mid tibiae only with 5-7 long bristles, not pennate legs in the female. Empis (s. str.) longiphallus sp. n. (Russia: Adygea, Krasnodar Province; South Ossetia) is similar to E. (s. str.) provencalis Chvála, 2012 but can be distinguished from the latter by larger size of the body, structure of male terminalia and some other characters. Empis (s. str.) ladae sp. n. is larger and has longer labrum of the proboscis. The holotypes of the new species are deposited in the Zoological Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg. Additionally, females of E. (s. str.) arkhyziensis Kustov et Shamshev, 2013, E. (s. str.) gladuni Kustov et Shamshev, 2014 and E. (s. str.) planti Chvála, 2012 are described for the first time. Three species, E. (s. str.) doronicola Çiftçi, 2012, E. (s. str.) planti Chvála, 2012 and E. (s. str.) caucasidecora Chvála, 2012 are recorded for the first time from the territory of Russia. A key to species of the E. pennipes group known from the Caucasus is provided.
