AUTHORS' SUMMARY A variety of quantitative methods have been used to analyse energy technology innovation. These range from efforts to identify and isolate the effects of particular policies or innovation processes such as research and development, to studies of the broader social benefits of energy technology innovation. Innovation metrics can thus describe innovation inputs, outputs or outcomes.
