In this paper some new advances in the applications of gradient and Cosserat theories in rock mechanics are presented. In particular the question of the experimental calibration of the additional material parameters introduced by these theories is addressed. It is shown that for simple fabric pattern, these parameters can be explicitly determined from homogenization technique.
