This paper reports on the results of t w o studies involving the development and construct validation of a short form of the Career Orientations Inventory. The short form was factor analytically derived and tested in t w o separate field studies of IS employees. The short form measures nine career orientations: technical, managerial, autonomy, job security, geographic security, service, pure challenge, lifestyle and entrepreneurship.
