This paper will try to explore the theoretical possibilities of multi-layered semiotic model of aesthetic cognition of environment, based on analysis of 'decollage' surfaces found in underground New York. Distinctive features and social implications of these surfaces will enable us to relate them to the environment and select them as an environmental aesthetic model, as well as to see how closely environmental aesthetics is related to semiotic systems.
