The Wendland is the most subcontinental area of northern Lower Saxony. In spite of the floristic impoverishment compared with southern Central Europe, however, 9 associations and some basal communities can be demonstrated in the skirt vegetation. In partieular the helio-thermophilic skirt vegetation of the dass Trifolio-Geranietea sanguinei is described.
