Key indicators: single-crystal X-ray study; T = 203 K; mean (C-C) = 0.002 Å; R factor = 0.061; wR factor = 0.188; data-to-parameter ratio = 25.2. The title compound, C 11 H 9 NO, crystallizes with four independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. The formyl group in each molecule is coplanar with the attached quinoline ring system. The independent molecules exist as two pseudoinversion-related pairs. Each set of these molecules forms sheets parallel to the ac plane which are alternately
more » ... alternately stacked along the b axis. The crystal packing is stabilized by C-HÁ Á ÁO intermolecular hydrogen-bonding interactions.
