The direct electron transfer between human cytoglobin (Cygb) and the electrode surface, which would allow manipulating the oxidation states of the heme iron in Cygb, was first observed by immobilizing Cygb on a nanoporous gold (NPG) electrode via a carboxy-terminated alkanethiol.
