Since the early Middle Ages diagnosis of diseases based on urine has become increasingly popular. Colour, consistency, clarity, sedyment and odoru were taken into account. A multifaceted view of urine provided a non-invasive and humoral theory based way to indicato and identify imbalances in the body. The authors of the treatises were not only theoreticians, but also excellent observers of urine and patients.
