Excess Volume in Grain Boundary Segregation

Segregation volume is an important quantity controlling the pressure effect on grain boundary chemistry. In the present paper, we define molar segregation volume on basis of fundamental thermodynamics and evaluate it for example of phosphorus and sulfur grain boundary segregation in low-alloy ferritic steels including its development during non-equilibrium segregation under tensile and compressive deformations.
