Eight-dimensional modulation for coherent optical communications

We propose several 8-dimensional modulation formats for coherent fiber-optic communications. For spectral efficiencies of 1.75 and 2 b/s/Hz/pol, the proposed modulations offer up to 1 dB gain over DP-QPSK.
