Objective: The purpose of this review article is to identify the relationship established between the cognitive style in the field-independence and field-dependence dimension for the choice of professional training. Methodology: A documentary review was carried out in different databases. Results: It was found that the EC-DC is associated with careers in social sciences and the EC-IC is related to areas of health, exact sciences and education. Conclusions: Since there is a marked individual tendency to choose a professional path corresponding with the EC, analytical-empirical studies are required to establish possible relationships between the EC-DIC, the chosen graduate program and its correspondence with the scope of academic goals.
