Crystal structure of bis(4-pyridone)dichlorozinc(II), ZnCl2C5H5NO)2

Source of material: Crystals weie prepared by dissolving 4-hydroxypyridine (0.01 M) in 25 ml of aqueous solution containing zinc chloride (O.OOS M). The mixture was evaporated at room temperature (291 K) for one week. Bulky colorless prisms up to 2x2x3 mm in size were crystallized. The crystal structure is built from ZnCl2(C5H5NO)2 molecules having a twofold symmetry, in which the Zn atoms are tetrahedrally coordinated. Centrosymmetrical layers, parallel to the (OlO)plane and located at ЫЛ, are assemblies of discrete molecules connected via hydrogen bonds N-H·-CI originating from N atoms of pyridone ligands. Intermolecular C-H-О hydrogen bonds connect layers into infinite three-dimensional network.
