The historical development of the Slovak Republic has confirmed that it is located in a particularly hectic geopolitical space. In its history, the Slovak Republic, as one of the few states in the world has had to continuously endure struggles for its territory. As each territory has its borders, so does each state need to determine its domain, where it will exercise its sovereign power. The significance of state borders lies within their difference from other types of borders in that the state borders are simultaneously the borders of governmental and political influence of other states surrounding the Slovak Republic.
