Efficiency and Productivity Change in the Global Steel Industry

This study analyzes the efficiency and productivity changes of global steel companies over the period 1997-2011 and identifies the firm characteristics that affect efficiency. The aggregate and technical efficiency scores increased from 1998 to 2005 before trending down, and the scale efficiency score peaked in 1999 before trending down. The average productivity change index, the average efficiency change index, and the average technical change index are 1.000, 0.998, and 1.004, respectively,
