The significance of the posted minimum speed limits along interstate highways in South Carolina on traffic operation and safety

h i g h l i g h t s Less than 1% of field-collected vehicle speeds were below the 45-mph posted minimum speed limit on interstate highways. Speed variations increased as the posted differential speed between the maximum and minimum speed limits increased. There is insufficient evidence suggesting the posted differential speed limits improved traffic flow uniformity and safety.
