Article Info: Graphical/Tabular Abstract In this study, rim design has been biomimetically evaluated in order to contribute to aerodynamic studies carried out with the sensitivity of increasing economic savings in the period since the invention of the automobile. Figure A. Image of the rim designed with biomimetic approach Purpose: In this study, deficiencies were determined by examining the previous wheel design studies. In this direction, the effect of the rim designed with biomimetic

Theory and Methods: The rim design, inspired by the Peregrine Falcon bird, was modeled in computer environment with the Solidworks 2016 program, adopting the biomimetic science study methodology from biology to design. Honda Civic 1.6 i-VTEC Elegance car, which has a standard appearance, was compared with the rim used in 2007-2011 and improvements were revealed. Results: Designed rim and standard rim were compared in terms of total pressure, total temperature, drag coefficient and friction force. Analyzes show that the design, inspired by the wing movements made by the Peregrine Falcon bird flying in the air, reduces the air resistance and positively affects the rim in terms of aerodynamics. Conclusion: Decreasing this resistance force created by the air on the rim will increase the fuel economy of the vehicle. At the same time, it was concluded that the biomimetic approach is an important means for future designs in this field.
