The von Bertalanffy growth equation parameters were estimated as foll ows: L 00 = 57.48 cm; K = 1.04; to =0.439 yr. The mean length at first maturity was esti mated at 37 .5 cm, i.e., 65% of L 00 • * As the project was aimed at studying growth rate and feeding (described in a separate paper; Kompowski, in prep.), the fish of extremal body lengths -very large and very small ones -were preferred when sampling.
