INTRODUCTION Syndromic panels were first FDA cleared for detection of respiratory pathogens in 2008. Since then, other panels have been approved by the FDA, and most recently, the FilmArray meningitis/encephalitis panel (BioFire, Salt Lake City, UT) has become available.
