Vitamin D is known to play a crucial role in mineral homeostasis and bone metabolism. Recent discoveries showed that the vitamin also regulate the inflammatory mediators. A number of studies have reported on the association of low vitamin D levels with increased level of inflammatory parameters; which predisposes to atherosclerosis and development of cardiovascular diseases (CVD).
