HE Linnean Society having honoured with a place in the T Second Volume of their TranfaLtions, p. 1031, a paper entitled, Plmie Eboracenfes, I now beg leave to lay before them, as an addition to that paper, the following catalogue of Yorkfhire plants : t h e former liit was confined to a fmall part of the county, this is extended to the whole, that is, fo far as my own obfervations, and the communications of my botanical friends, have enabled m e ; to which is added, fuch of the more rare plants

... as have not fallen under our obfervation, but are mentioned, as natives of the county, by Ray, Dillenius, Hudfoii, Smith, Dickfon, and Withering. Plants that are found in every part of our ifland are generally omitted, as they were in my former paper, excepting thofe of the Crypt og am i a cl a Is. It would be prefumption in me to fuppofe that this lift, and my former one, contain any thing like a complete Flora of fo extenfive a county ; however I flatter myfelf the Society will do me the honour t o accept of my cfforts towards it, and wiih they may be the means of exciting others of fuperior talents, t o finiih what I have only made a beginning of. I have travelled over, and fcrutiniztd, at different times, the,greater part of the county; and the part which is celebrated for the more rare plants, that is, Iagkborough Hill, and its neighbo-Irhood, has been vifited by almofi all the curious botaniits of the lafi and prefent ,age; notwitliltanding, many plants may yet remain undifcov-ered, as it is well known by every pra&ical botanifi, that the more rare ones are extremely local, and of courfe are frequently overlooked by the mofi accurate obfervers.
