I"RII:L.lMINAHJI REPORT ON A MODEL FOR INCLPIENT SPALL ABSTRACT A computational model to describe spall is presented. The important features a r e a spall strength and a damage function that modify material properties in tension. The. model can be interpreted a s fracture o c c u r r i n i by nucleation, growtl~, and coalescence of microcracks. The predictions of the model a r e compared to experiments in c:opper and the agreement is quite good. Future developments for the model a r e indicated.
