The consumption of most foods, and especially protective foods, was considerably greater among famiiies with high than among those with low food expenditure per head. The intake of all nutrients except protein was inadequate among the groups with food expenditures of less than about 9s. per head weekly, and the calcium intake was inadequate among all groups, irrespective of the level of food expenditure.
