Resumo: O presente estudo é uma análise de três capas da Revista Manchete entre 1984 e 1994. Essas estampam Roberta Close, transmulher que se tornou famosa na década de 80 do século XX. Metodológicamente o estudo se fundamenta na análise da imagem fotográfica como fonte principal do estudo, embora também se recorra aos textos escritos, em especial, os títulos e legendas das capas. O objetivo geral é, a partir dessas imagens, incitar a discussão acerca de como essa (s) identidade (s) era (m) apresentada (s) pela mídia de massa, no período estudado, aqui representada pela Revista Manchete. Abstract-This article is an analisys of three Manchete magazine covers between 1984 and 1994.These covers presente Roberta Close, famous transwoman in the 80´s-twentieth century. The character has become an icon of feminine beauty, coming to pose nude for two men´s magazine, Playboy and Ele&Ela. The aim is to identify, on the covers, representations and constructions of transfemale identities, from the reflection on travestility and transsexuality, understood as the construction of female gender identity. Methodologically the study is based on the analysis of photographic image as the main source of the study, but it also refers to written texts, in particular titles and captions on the covers. The goal is, from these images,incite discusssion about how these identities were presented by the mass media, in the period, here represented by Manchete Magazine.
