Phytochemical and Chemotaxonomic Studies on Pteris Species from Southwestern Nigeria

2020 Tropical Journal of Natural Product Research
Ferns and Lycophytes are composed of primitive vascular ornamental, medicinal and very valuable plants. In the present study, seven Pteris from Southwestern Nigerian were screened using standard phytochemical screening methods, and Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). This was with the view to identifying their various bioactive compounds that are medicinally and taxonomically important. Results showed the presence of alkaloids in all the species except P.acanthoneura. Saponins, flavonoids, cardiac

The information on the phytoconstituents of Pteris species provided by this study is valuable for further pharmacognostic and chemotaxonomical investigations.
