The objective of our study was to screen the extent of genetic variability and phylogenetic relations among the three kinds of honey bee species from Bengaluru at different habitats. The Asian honey bee species i.e., Apis cerana indica, Apis dorsata and Apis florea collected from Bengaluru were studied by using partial sequences from two mitochondrial genes (i) the Cytochrome c oxidase-I (COI) and (ii) the mitochondrial encoded NADH dehydrogenase 5 (NADH5).
