The Omission of Antibody Identification Testing

Once an antibody screening test (AST) on a patient's serum shows a positive reaction, the antibody identification is required to find out the specificity. This procedure is often repeated on each admission for patients who have known antibodies in their files. This time-consuming procedure can overburden those technologists who already have a heavy workload and are often short staffed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether such an antibody workup can be simplified in these patients
