EFFICACY TESTS OF FMC 5268 ON L. TRIFOUI ADULT LEAFMINERS: Efficacy tests were performed on adult leafminers reared on lima bean plants at the University of California, Riverside, in the laboratory. The leafminer colony was started from field collected samples in Orange County, CA. Adult bioassays were performed by placing either a 24u-l or a 50JJL1 droplet of 10% or 25% honey solution inside a Munger cell. Half of the replicates contained droplets of the honey solution alone to serve as the

A single adult leafminer was carefully introduced into each Munger cell with a pipet aspirator. After the leafminers acclimated to the Munger cells in about 15 min, they were placed in a chamber maintained at 97% RH using a supersaturated potassium dichromate salt solution. The chamber was placed in an incubator maintained at 24 °C. The purpose of using such high humidity was to maintain a constant concentration within the droplets by reducing evaporation. The leafminers fed on the droplet and ingested the material. Larvae were observed every 24 hours for 72 hours and recorded as either dead or alive. The results are shown in the table. All the concentrations of the FMC 5268 material resulted in a significantly high mortality of adult leafminers. There was no mortality in the check. Even at the lowest rate tested (0.03 g/liter), 100% mortality of the leafminer adults was observed 72 h after treatment.
