Einhornia, a new genus for electrids formerly classified as the Electra crustulenta species group (Bryozoa, Cheilostomata)
unpublished
The new genus Einhornia is established for five species of cheilostome bryozoans formerly assigned to the genus Electra. The diagnostic features of the new genus are the presence of a single proximedial spine in zooids and a calcified operculum. These characters clearly distinguish Einhornia from the genus Electra, originally diagnosed by the presence of many spines in the zooids. The morphological findings are congruent with recently reported molecular genetic evidence for distinction of this genus.
