To describe the epidemiology of incomplete abortion (spontaneous miscarriage and illegally induced) in South Africa. Multicentre, prospective, descriptive study. Fifty-six public hospitals in nine provinces (a stratified, random sample of all hospitals treating gynaecological emergencies).
