Programming languages are the tools that allow communication between the computer and the developer. Far from being a static tool, programming languages evolvethey are created, constantly change, and frequently disappear over the course of their use. This article discusses the needs and forces that have shaped the evolution of fifth programming languages, their past, present and the future.
