Modeling slotted WDM rings with discrete-time Markovian models

An approximate discrete-time Markov chain model is developed for an all-optical WDM ring in which users transmit ®xed-length packets (or cells) according to the SRR (Synchronous Round Robin) medium access control protocol. The model steady-state solution allows the computation of the traditional performance parameters of interest, i.e., throughputs and average delays, for packets referring to speci®c source±destination pairs.
