The present study examines the requirements for the international missions of the Austrian Armed Forces by using the method of the Critical Incident Technique developed by Flanagan (1954). In all 53 interviews with selected experts were conducted and with a so called "requirement analysis" it was possible to create six requirement profiles for ranks and units. Hence a comparison among themselves could be made separately. In addition to the qualitative study the distributions were tested with

Consequently it can be assumed that all ranks, as well as units have to meet almost the same requirements for the international mission. The most important require-ments were considered to be conscientiousness and social competencies, such as readiness for communication or team orientation. Beyond that resilience, for example high frustration tolerance or emotional stability were determined to be of significant importance.
