Como parte de los trabajos que actualmente se adelantan en la tribu Quararibeae (Bombacaceae) en el norte de Sudamérica, se describen 5 especies nuevas y una subespecie del género Matisia Humb. & Bonpl. (Malata Little subsp. corrugata, M carderi, M hirsutissima, M lozanoi, M serpicostata y M spathacea) y dos especies de Quararibea Aubl. (Q. cogolloi y Q. tulekunae).
