Detection of solar flares when the sun is observed as a star

Solar flares are detectable in unfocused sunlight from minute, transient, enhancements in the center of Fraunhofer Call K spectrum line. A survey of flare-frequency in other solar-type stars could establish the normalcy of the sun's present activity cycle.
