Damping-off disease was observed in cabbage plug seedlings (Brassica oleracea L., capitata group) in Noshiro City, Akita Prefecture, in 1998. The pathogen from infected plants was identified as Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn AG 2-2-IIIB based on hyphal anastomosis and culture type. This is the first record of the occurrence of R. solani AG 2-2-IIIB on cabbage in Japan.
