The present paper describes the impacts of hydrology, biogeochemistry and bathymetry on phosphorus dynamics in freshwater ecosystem. Various methods for quantifying phosphorus retention have been discussed, including the phosphorus spiraling concept and the advection-dispersion-reaction equation as well as its associated forms.
