In 2017, the city of Montreal commemorated its 375th anniversary. It is in this context that we offer an overview of the characteristics of commemoration and more specifically we take a closer look at those lived in Montreal since the beginning of the 20th century. Based on this brief analysis, the second half of the article presents a tool to address commemoration in the history classroom with primary and high school students in order for them to better grasp the mechanisms behind the practice
