The 24-hour care responds to the growing need for home care of older people. This service relationship takes place under special conditions. Location of service delivery is an individualized domestic home. Due to the 24-hour arrangement the people involved in the home care service are very closely connected to each other. This master thesis has examined the question of how the 24-hour care is organized under these conditions and in the setting of privacy. The main interest was on the impact of

The results revealed that the 24-hour care is a service full of ambiguities and uncertainties, like the service environment, the need for care, the qualifications of the care worker and the individual attitudes and behaviors of the people involved. In the face-to-face interaction, the dimensions of the care situation have to be negotiated. From the start organizing processes take place, which aim to create an order, to be oriented to. By doing so, the people involved put an organization-like frame over the service relationship. Through that the influence of the private individual and subjectivity in the service relationship can be reduced.
