Prevalence of thermotolerant Campylobacter species in dogs and cats in Iran

Campylobacter species are common bacterial pathogens causing gastroenteritis in humans worldwide and the consumption mushrooms is suspected to be one of the main cause of this illness. This study was conducted to the prevalence of Campylobacter spp. In retail mushrooms marketed in Shahrekord, Iran. more » ... g culture method and confirmed using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) assay. Overall, 13 out of 100 retail mushrooms samples (13%) were contaminated with Campylobacter. All of the Campylobacter species isolated from mushrooms samples were identified as Campylobacter coli. To the author's knowledge, the present study is the first report of the isolation of Campylobacter spp. from retail mushrooms in Shahrekord, Iran.
