Evolução, natureza e virtude. abstract: This article brings a reflection on the antagonistic vision of America' s future by chroniclers Gabriel Soares de Sousa and Cornelius de Pauw, considering aspects such as: the influence of nature on humans, the environment as hindrance to the expected maximum development of the Latin American continent, and the issue of the delay in the development of Latin America was, for centuries, associated with natural limitations that the climate and the consequent human nature resulting from this climate would bring.
