Background. Nonsyndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate (nsCL/P) is the most common orofacial birth defect with an aetiology involving both genetic and environmental factors. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified several genomic susceptibility regions for nsCL/P.
