The aims of this research to know the application of cooperatif learning model type Student Team Achievement Divisions (STAD) helped by student worksheet with character to improve learning activities and cognitive ability student class VIII.F SMPN 16 Surakarta on Academic Year 2012/2013 subject matter "Force".This research is a classroom action research with kurt lewin and collaborative model that was held in three cycles. ... e continued by implementation phase, observation phase and reflection phase.. The research subject is the student of VIII.F of SMP 16Surakarta at academic year of 2012/2013, which is consist of 24 students and the research was specialized on force chapter. The data was collected through observation, interview and discusion with the teacher, observer and the student, the result of pretest and posttest, observer notes, documentation using camera and handycam and referrence document. The datas of research result were processed and analized qualitatively into three component, they were reduction data, reserving data and making conclution. Based on result of research, it can be concluded that The application using cooperatif learning model Student Team Achievement Divisions (STAD) type assisted by worksheet with character can improve the student learning activities on subject matter Force at VIII.F class of SMP 16 Surakarta of academic year 2012/2013.It can be seen from the observation result of learning activities each cycle. Based on the indicators of activities which have been determined,its occured increasing of positif learning activities each cycle, from 65.7% in cycle I become 73.76% in cycle II and 75.47% in cycle III. Student's cognitif aspect also increase each cycle with the incresing average point of pre-test to post-test is 31.67 become 60.83 in cycle I with 0.42 of normalized gain, 48.95 become 72.91with 0.46 of normalized gain in cycle II, and 29.58 become 81.25with 0.73 of normalized gain in cycle III.
