Proceedings of the 31st conference on Winter simulation Simulation---a bridge to the future - WSC '99
Certain automotive parts call for assemblies to be produced to tolerances that cannot be economically reached using standard high volume machining practices. Shims are used instead. We show that the required precision may be reached by using selective assembly. An efficient selective assembly system is proposed. Simulation is used to evaluate the performance of this system, and configurations capable of tolerance improvements of up to 1/20 are suggested.doi:10.1145/324138.324460 fatcat:o7lx3xbg2zckdbnxxwkhxmn65q
